How To Use Bio Pond Clear

Thank you buying Bio Pond Clear, the effective non-chemical and environmentally friendly way to clean up your pond.

Before you use Bio Pond Clear, do please read the instructions carefully. You'll find full instructions on the packet, together with many commonly asked questions.

Whilst the product is entirely harmless to pond life when used correctly, do take a little extra care if you have fish. In such a case add Pond Clear in stages to ensure that oxygen levels are maintained in your pond.

You can simply add a sachet of Bio Pond Clear directly to your pond; however for best results add it to about 5 litres (1 gallon) of luke-warm water, to help activate the microbes. Once mixed the microbes will start to feed on the added nutrients and will stay active for at least 5 days, should you decide to add the mixture in stages.

If you have fish, below you will find a simple guide to calculating the size of your pond. Over application will not otherwise impact on pond plant life.

How Big is My Pond?

To calculate how much Bio Pond Clear your pond requires, follow this quick guide:

Measure the average Length (L), Average Width (W) and Average Depth (D) of your pond in metres. For example; for a pond that is 7m long, 5m wide and 0.5m deep:

L x W x D = V
7m x 5m x 0.5m = 17.5m³

To then calculate the volume in litres, simply multiply by 1000.

17.5 x 1000 = 17500 litres
V x 1000 = Volume in Litres

A Rough Estimator for Circular Ponds

To roughly calculate the volume of a circular pond, measure the Diameter (D) of the pond in metres and halve this to find the Radius (R).

D / 2 = R

For example; for a circular pond that is 5m wide and 1m deep:

5m / 2 = 2.5m

Multiply the radius by itself, and then multiply this number by three to find the approximate surface area (A).

R x R x 3 = A
2.5m x 2.5m x 3 = 18.75m²

Multiply then by the Depth of the pond (D) in metres and again multiply by 1000 to calculate the volume in litres:

A x D = V
18.75m x 1m = 18.75m³

V x 1000 = Volume in litres
18.75 x 1000 = 187500 litres

Finally, check the pack size of you Bio Pond Clear. The volumes treated are:

Starter Pack - 12500 Litres

Regular Pack - 25000 Litres

Large Pack - 50000 Litres

If you have bought too much Bio Pond Clear, snip open the sachet, empty out the approximate amount required and then seal the remainder in cling film, ready for future use - it will keep for up to two years.

INSTRUCTIONS

Aquatic Bio Pond Clear contains 12 naturally occurring environmentally friendly microbes. They start by eliminating both nitrates and nitrites on which algae feed. Then, they digest remaining organic matter to create a crystal-clear pond.

Each gram of Bio Pond Clear contains over 5 billion microbes that are totally harmless to you, your plants, pets, wildlife and fish.

When To Apply

Use Bio Pond Clear at any time of day when water temperature exceeds 8°C. For best results, apply when water temperature is 12°C or higher.

How To Apply

Handle Bio Pond Clear with dry hands only. See label on pack front for size of pond treated. Simply drop the soluble sachet in to a bowl or bucket containing about 5 litres (1 gallon) of luke warm water. Leave for 2 to 4 hours to activate microbes and then pour in to pond. The microbes will begin to reduce the nitrates and nitrites. As they begin to work the pond may well turn from green to brown, before becoming clear.

WARNING

Whilst harmless to fish and plants, it is very important that there is sufficient oxygen, so that fish are not deprived. If there is any doubt apply a small amount each day over five days. If fish move to the surface, aerate immediately. In hot weather water does not hold as much oxygen.

5. How frequently should I apply Bio Pond Clear?

Often, Bio Pond Clear will clear a pond of algae, blanketweed and green water after just one dosage however depending on conditions, it may take more. To maintain a healthy pond eco-system, it is recommended that you apply Bio Pond Clear every couple of months, when water temperature is above 10°C.

6. Should I remove blanketweed from my pond before application?

Yes, remove as much blanketweed as possible before applying Bio Pond Clear.

7. Is Bio Pond Clear safe for fish & wildlife?

Yes! Bio Pond Clear will actually improve the health of your fish, by improving the quality of the water in which they live. It was originally developed for use in commercial fish farms, angling clubs and fishing lakes. It is not known to have any harmful effects on frogs, newts, birds or any other wildlife. However do not overdose your pond as it may affect the oxygen level. In hot weather water does not hold as much oxygen. If in any doubt apply a small amount each day over five days.

8. How should I store Bio Pond Clear and how long will it last?

Bio Pond Clear comes in water soluble sachets. Wrap any excess in cling film and keep in a cool, dry place. If kept dry and secure, the product can be used for 2 years.
