Description

Transform your garden into a vibrant vegetable patch that’s as productive as it is beautiful with the unique Pak Choi ‘Mei Qing Choi’, I doubt your neighbour will be growing it!

Enjoy homegrown, delicious, and nutritious greens that are ready to harvest in a matter of weeks. This exceptional variety of Pak Choi is perfect for gardeners of all skill levels, delivering results that will inspire your inner chef.

Known for its tender, flavourful leaves, ‘Mei Qing Choi’ is an Asian vegetable that’s as versatile in the kitchen as it is in the garden. Stir-fries, salads, or soups - this versatile veg adds a touch of gourmet to so many of my favourite dishes.

Its compact size, maturing at just 25cm or so tall, makes it ideal for growing in big pots, raised beds, or borders. This fast-growing variety thrives in the UK’s climate, performing well in both sunny and partially shaded locations. It’s disease-resistant and low-maintenance.

For best results, grow in well-drained, nutrient-rich soil and water regularly. With its quick growth and outstanding flavour, Pak Choi ‘Mei Qing Choi’ will have you serving up fresh, homegrown dishes in no time.

Supplied as a set of 12 plug plants, to grow on and plant out, once all risk of frost has passed.

Top Tips
Pak Choi can bolt (go to seed) in warm, dry conditions. To prevent this provide partial shade in hot weather and water consistently to avoid stress.
Care Information
  • Pak Choi grows best in full sun but tolerates partial shade, particularly in warmer months to prevent bolting.
  • Choose a spot with moist, well-draining soil enriched with compost or well-rotted manure.
  • Work the soil to a fine texture, removing weeds and debris.
  • Add organic matter to improve fertility and water retention, as Pak Choi prefers nutrient-rich soil.
  • Plant plugs 15 - 20cm apart in rows spaced 30cm apart. This allows enough room for their leafy heads to develop.
  • Plant each plug so the top of the root ball is level with the soil surface. Firm the soil gently around the plug and water thoroughly after planting.
  • For container-growing, use pots at least 25 - 30cm deep with good drainage, spacing a similar distance to if you were planting in the ground.

Caring:

  • Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water regularly, especially during dry spells, as Pak Choi can wilt quickly in dry conditions.
  • Avoid watering the leaves to reduce the risk of fungal diseases.
  • Apply a balanced liquid fertiliser every 2 - 3 weeks to encourage leafy growth. For autumn crops, use a nitrogen-rich feed to maintain healthy leaves.
  • Remove weeds regularly to minimise competition for nutrients and water. Be careful not to disturb the shallow roots.
  • Apply a layer of mulch around the plants to retain moisture, suppress weeds, and keep the soil temperature stable.
  • Watch for slugs, snails, and flea beetles, which are common pests for Pak Choi. Use organic slug pellets, copper tape, or netting for protection.
  • Cover plants with fine mesh or fleece to deter cabbage white butterflies and other pests.

Harvesting:

  • Pak Choi is ready to harvest about 4–6 weeks after planting, depending on growing conditions.
  • For baby leaves, cut the outer leaves as needed, leaving the inner growth intact to allow continued production.
  • For a full head, cut the entire plant at the base just above the soil line.

Delivery Information

Please allow us 3-5 working days to dispatch your order. Pre-ordered items will be sent as soon as possible after the date quoted and we'll generally ship your entire order with your pre-ordered items. When your order is dispatched, we'll send you another email with details of how to track it.

Most orders are sent on a fully-tracked courier service with Yodel. To avoid perishable items being stuck at depots and deteriorating, no signature is required, and our courier is asked to leave your order in a safe place on your property.

We'll send a tracking link when we dispatch your order, so you know when its due to arrive. Please note, once delivered we cannot be held responsible for loss or theft from your property. If you have any specific delivery instructions, please let us know - there's an option to enter a short message for the courier at the checkout.

Smaller, lighter, single-item orders may be sent through the post with Royal Mail - in which case no tracking is available.

Our experienced nursery team will always send your plants nursery fresh in the perfect condition to thrive when you plant them, so although most plants are very tough and will not be affected by all but the most extreme frosts or heatwaves, we avoid dispatching the most perishable plants if extreme weather is forecast, or over Bank Holiday weekends.

Please note, we cannot guarantee delivery on a certain day or time. Delivery to outlying postcode areas may take 1-2 days longer, dependent on your location.
