Description

Stocks are very well loved garden flowers and a cottage garden favourite. ‘Vintage Mixed’ is a fabulous hardy annual that will produce gloriously fragrant flowers as early as May and until late summer.

They are naturally sturdy, bushy and free flowering, with long, greyish-green leaves and multiple flowers stems densely packed with blooms, over half of which will be double, in a range of shades from white and pale yellow, through pink and mauve and deep purple. They carry an intense, clove-like, sweet fragrance that will smell wonderful as it drifts through your garden, and of course, these are superb cut flowers, and the scent will easily fill a room.

The flowers are edible and have a delicately perfumed flavour. Picked fresh, they make a great salad garnish, or they can be used as a topping for ice cream. They can also be candied, allowing them to be stored and used in cakes.

Grow them in full sun, in borders and or pots, where the nectar-rich flowers will attract bees and butterflies and you can enjoy the fabulous fragrance.

  • Remove faded flowers my cutting the stem off at its base.
Care Information
  • Give your garden ready plants a little attention on arrival - unpack them immediately, and either mist them or stand them in water for an hour - they may be slightly dry or yellow after being in a dark box in the post, but they’ll quickly recover. If you can’t do this, they can sit in Mini Greenhouses for a week if upright and not too wet.
  • We recommend that you leave them to settle for a day somewhere warm, light and airy such as a windowsill or greenhouse.
  • Stocks prefer light, well drained soil and full fun.
  • When planting directly into flower beds, prepare the ground well, removing weeds and digging in some compost or well-rotted manure if your soil is not already rich.
  • Plant about 30 cm (1 ft) apart to allow them room to grow. Feed using a high-potash feed such as Blooming Fast Superior Soluble Fertiliser for Flowers & Fruits, to encourage flowering.

    Our experienced nursery team will always send your plants nursery fresh in the perfect condition to thrive when you plant them, so although most plants are very tough and will not be affected by all but the most extreme frosts or heatwaves, we avoid dispatching the most perishable plants if extreme weather is forecast, or over Bank Holiday weekends.

    Please note, we cannot guarantee delivery on a certain day or time. Delivery to outlying postcode areas may take 1-2 days longer, dependent on your location.
