Description

Immerse your garden in a dazzling display of colour with Hydrangea macrophylla 'Nikko Blue', a showstopping shrub with breathtaking sky-blue blooms all summer long. This much-loved variety is a garden classic, with enormous mophead flower clusters that steal the spotlight, creating an irresistible focal point in beds, borders, or patio pots.

Fascinatingly, the blooms develop a deep, vivid blue in more acidic soils, while neutral to alkaline conditions encourage soft lilac hues.

Hardy and easy to grow, 'Nikko Blue' is a low-maintenance wonder that rewards with a long-lasting floral display, year after year. Its lush green foliage forms a beautiful backdrop to the dramatic blooms, ensuring interest from early summer into autumn. Whether you’re looking to brighten up a partially shaded corner, add a pop of colour to your patio, or create a striking feature in your garden, this hydrangea delivers with effortless charm.

This variety pairs beautifully with ferns, hostas, and Japanese maples for a soft, woodland feel, or alongside roses and lavender for a more traditional cottage garden look.

Supplied as an established plant in a 2 litre pot, ready to plant.

Top Tips
To extend the seasonal interest, leave some flowerheads on the plants over winter, where they will look gorgeous covered with frost  – and of course, they will provide shelter for overwintering wildlife.
Care Information
  • Just plant in position, water well, and add some fertiliser - this will burst into growth and flower profusely all summer!
  • These plants are at their best in moist soil as long as it is well-drained, in sun or part shade. A moisture-loving plant, remember to water regularly and deeply.
  • Hardy in the UK, although frost can cause some damage to young buds, reducing the number of flowers, so protect your plant with fleece if freezing weather is forecast.
  • Pruning is generally best carried out in early spring. A general tidy-up is usually all that is needed and consists of removing the dead bloom from each stem, cutting back to the first strong, healthy pair of buds down from the faded flower.
  • As hydrangeas flower on the previous year's growth, in spring cut out one or two of the oldest stems at the base to encourage the production of new, replacement growth that will carry more flowers.
Delivery Information

Please allow us 3-5 working days to dispatch your order. Pre-ordered items will be sent as soon as possible after the date quoted and we'll generally ship your entire order with your pre-ordered items. When your order is dispatched, we'll send you another email with details of how to track it.

Most orders are sent on a fully-tracked courier service with Yodel. To avoid perishable items being stuck at depots and deteriorating, no signature is required, and our courier is asked to leave your order in a safe place on your property.

We'll send a tracking link when we dispatch your order, so you know when its due to arrive. Please note, once delivered we cannot be held responsible for loss or theft from your property. If you have any specific delivery instructions, please let us know - there's an option to enter a short message for the courier at the checkout.

Smaller, lighter, single-item orders may be sent through the post with Royal Mail - in which case no tracking is available.

Our experienced nursery team will always send your plants nursery fresh in the perfect condition to thrive when you plant them, so although most plants are very tough and will not be affected by all but the most extreme frosts or heatwaves, we avoid dispatching the most perishable plants if extreme weather is forecast, or over Bank Holiday weekends.

Please note, we cannot guarantee delivery on a certain day or time. Delivery to outlying postcode areas may take 1-2 days longer, dependent on your location.
