Description

'Reticulata Blue' boasts vibrant cobalt blue blooms that burst from narrow foliage.

Each bloom shines, thanks to bright yellow and white markings that run along the centre of the petals, forming a remarkable resemblance to a peaceful orchid.

Appearing in March and April, these flowers are loved by bees and other pollinators, as they are an early source of nectar, and each one carries a heavenly fragrance.

This variety produces a wonderful display when planted together in pots, while also working well in rock and gravel gardens. For something a little bit different, try using this iris as a gorgeous centrepiece on a patio table!

Preferring well-drained soil and a sunny location, they will happily naturalise and spread, returning bigger and better each year. The bulbs can even be lifted and divided in autumn for even more outstanding displays.

This early flowering dwarf-natured iris is a native of the mountainous regions of Russia, Turkey and Iran.

Supplied as 35 bulbs, size 5/7 ready for planting in autumn.

Top Tips

To encourage iris to naturalise, choose a planting location where the soil is hot and dry during the summer months.

Care Information

Planting Advice for Iris reticulata

  • Plant your irises where they will receive full sun in soil that drains well.
  • Heavy soil can be broken up by adding horticultural grit or sharp sand.
  • Plant bulbs at twice the depth of the height of the bulb and four times their width apart. e.g. 5cm tall bulbs need to be planted 10cm below the surface of the ground and 20cm apart.
  • Please check the bag for any additional planting instructions.
  • They are fine to plant even if a little green growth is showing, they’ll just need a good watering when you plant them, and then only when the soil is dry.

Aftercare Advice

  • Leave them in the ground once they die back – they’ll come back bigger and better each year.
  • While all the energy that a bulb needs in order to grow is stored in the bulb itself, they will do better if you feed them when in active green growth.
  • Plant in herbaceous borders, in pots, or leave in the ground to naturalise.
  • If planted in pots be sure to water frequently and keep moist.
Delivery Information

Please allow us 3-5 working days to dispatch your order. Pre-ordered items will be sent as soon as possible after the date quoted and we'll generally ship your entire order with your pre-ordered items. When your order is dispatched, we'll send you another email with details of how to track it.

Most orders are sent on a fully-tracked courier service with Yodel. To avoid perishable items being stuck at depots and deteriorating, no signature is required, and our courier is asked to leave your order in a safe place on your property.

We'll send a tracking link when we dispatch your order, so you know when its due to arrive. Please note, once delivered we cannot be held responsible for loss or theft from your property. If you have any specific delivery instructions, please let us know - there's an option to enter a short message for the courier at the checkout.

Smaller, lighter, single-item orders may be sent through the post with Royal Mail - in which case no tracking is available.

Our experienced nursery team will always send your plants nursery fresh in the perfect condition to thrive when you plant them, so although most plants are very tough and will not be affected by all but the most extreme frosts or heatwaves, we avoid dispatching the most perishable plants if extreme weather is forecast, or over Bank Holiday weekends.

Please note, we cannot guarantee delivery on a certain day or time. Delivery to outlying postcode areas may take 1-2 days longer, dependent on your location.
