Cortaderia Tiny Pampa

Many people will have fond memories of Pampas grass from their childhood. Back in the day it was a prominent trend to plant a singular Pampa Grass in the middle of your lawn. And while these looked great at the time, upon reflection this was a bit of a dull way to style it. I better idea would be to surround it with other plants that provide contrast, giving it greater impact. However, the trouble with Pampas grass is that with its large size it is quite difficult to find a position for it next to other plants.

But fear not as these issues are a relic of the past with our new Cortaderia Tiny Pampa! The breeder of this variety has taken all the best bits of pampa grass we have known and loved over the years but has shrunk them down to a size that now means they’re now perfect for the modern garden.

Our Founder Peter discussing why Tiny Pampa is such a treasure of the modern garden!

So, you get all the brilliance and wonder of a Pampa Grass but in a more compact size, meaning the planting possibilities are endless. Since they will grow to a maximum size of a round 60cm tall and 40cm wide; a significantly smaller spread, Tiny Pampa can be grown in pots on your patio. This makes it perfect for smaller gardens and courtyards.

In terms of aesthetics, Tiny Pampa retains the lovely foliage that will provide interest all year round.
But the true star feature of this plant will come around in the summer months, and that’s its beautiful white fluffy flowers. These are simply stunning and are almost irresistible to touch when you walk past. How to plant Cortaderia Tiny Pampa

Select a location that receives full sun to partial shade. Cortaderia Tiny Pampa prefers at least six hours of direct sunlight each day If possible.

Ensure the soil is well-draining, as these plants do not tolerate standing water. If the soil is heavy or clayey, amend it with organic matter such as compost to improve drainage.

Dig a hole that is slightly larger than the root ball of the plant. Place the plant in the hole, making sure it is at the same depth it was previously growing.

Backfill the hole with good quality compost. We recommend our premium professional variety. Firm this compost so the plant stands up straight. Water thoroughly to settle the soil.

How to look after Cortaderia Tiny Pampa

Cortaderia Tiny Pampa is moderately drought-tolerant once established, but it benefits from regular watering during its first growing season.

Water deeply, ensuring that the water reaches the roots. Allow the top few inches of soil to dry out between waterings to prevent overwatering, as this can lead to root rot.

During hot and dry periods, increase the frequency of watering to keep the plant hydrated.

In late winter or early spring, before new growth emerges, it is a good idea to cut back its foliage slightly.
Use sharp pruning shears or a trimmer to remove the dead or damaged leaves. This will encourage fresh growth and helps maintain the plant’s compact shape.

After pruning in late winter, consider mulching around the base of the plant to insulate the roots from freezing temperatures.
